Curriculum Study Councils
The '22-'23 Curriculum Study Councils, designed for anyone who works with curriculum, instruction, assessment, and/or grants, will meet monthly. Participants are welcome to join either/both groups based on availability.

Regional High Ability Meetings with Whitney Coake, IDOE High Ability Specialist - August 30, 2022
High Ability Coordinators are invited to attend the first Regional HA Coordinator Network event for the 2022-2023 school year. The Assistant Director of High Ability and Alternative Education from the IDOE will review the required criterion for High Ability Programs and provide updates on IDOE guidance in student identification. Please come ready to share ideas and build relationships with coordinators in your region! Two Locations and Times:

NEW: Civics Standards and Updated 6-8 Social Studies Standards
- Updated standards A middle school civics course should be required for all 6th graders during semester 2. Educators with a general elementary licensure are eligible to instruct the course if grade six falls within the elementary/intermediate setting.
- These updates must be implemented during the 2023-2024 school year.
- To support schools, regional meetings with the IDOE (Adam McMickle) will be on November 28th. Registration Link

Professional Learning Opportunities
RISE Administrator Training Workshops Teacher Evaluation is more crucial than ever as we look to recruit and retain quality educators. It is vital our teacher effectiveness model, classroom observations, feedback and coaching opportunities, and goal setting with our teaching staff is exceptional. That quality begins with training the administrators within a district. This training incorporates all of the key components of the teacher effectiveness rubric but also embeds work related to retaining our teacher talent through effective feedback, building teacher efficacy, and assisting teachers with stretch goals. Mathematically Rich Tasks October 18 @ NIESC in Mishawaka
Mathematics MUST be taught in context, so it is not just a set of rules to be memorized and soon forgotten. Mathematically Rich problems and asking good thinking questions help students understand and master the concepts that are being presented. These skills are also proven to increase the scores on standardized assessments like the SAT, ACT, and ISTEP+ Math Assessments. We all learn by doing. Teachers will define and explore how Mathematically Rich problems and asking good thinking questions bring an elevated level of thinking and doing math for students. Teachers will work on Mathematically Rich problems and be given resources to find and write their own Mathematically Rich problems and good purposeful thinking questions. Registration Link
SAT Assessment – Test Details, Tips, and Tricks to Help Students Achieve Their Personal Best November 8 @ NIESC in Mishawaka
The SAT Assessment has become one of the Indiana Accountability measures for high schools. How students perform will reflect on both the students and on the schools they are attending. It is also one of 9 ways students in the graduating class of 2023 and beyond can fulfill the Post-Secondary Ready Competencies required in the new graduation requirement. To better prepare students, parents, teachers, and administrators all the specific details of the SAT Assessment will be presented. Participants will be given copy-ready information that can be disseminated to students, parents, and teachers. Many examples for the Reading, Writing and Language, and Math (both the Calculator and No Calculator) Tests will be shown along with tips and specific ways students can achieve their own personal best scores. There will be many classroom-ready resources teachers can use in a variety of classes (not just English and math) to help the students be better prepared for the SAT and PSAT Assessments.
