Executive Director Notes

I have recently become a certified CPI Trainer.

What is CPI? Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) equips corporations and individuals with training and resources on prevention and de-escalating difficult behaviors and situations. The training provides individuals with skills to safely recognize and respond to crisis situations that occur everyday in our schools.

If your corporation or school is interested in me providing CPI training or you have questions about CPI, please contact me at dharman@niesc.k12.in.us.

Christina Gutierrez
Director of Elementary Curriculum

Christina Gutierrez is the Director of Elementary Curriculum at School City of East Chicago. She has been with the corporation for six years.

Christina has been quite busy over the last year. Some of the things that she has been the most focused on include incorporating Science of Reading with all K-2 classrooms, unifying district formative cycle assessments to support priority standard teaching cycles, after school and summer school curriculum, and high ability identification and leader training.

Christina shared that her dream for the corporation would be that all SCEC students would have the tools to grow academically and socially through meaningful and rigorous curriculum.

We asked Christina what she finds the most rewarding about her position.  She said, “Working with teachers and instructional coaches who want to make a difference and continue to grow as educators.”

In her spare time, Christina likes to attend her children’s sporting events, church fellowships, and spend time with her immediate and extended family.
